I just want to ESCAPE

There is something so freeing about putting your thoughts down on a sheet of paper. This is something my mother taught me to do years ago. When the weight and brutality of life got too heavy to hold; when my hope was hanging by a thread, slowly shaping into a noose of its own, that’s when expression saved me. At first I’d sit down, crayons in hand, and just scratch away at my reality. Sometimes I’d tare straight through the paper- a message of its own. As I bloomed and wilted, I found the solace in the safety of words. Each letter with a twist and turn that somehow spelled freedom. And so it happened that every time my lungs went empty, my faith went futile, and my heart went heavy- I curled into the pages of my own words and released the pain that had been chaining me down. And that feeling- it’s like trying to describe the taste of water on a hot scorching day. That sense of entitlement surged through every inch of my being. I felt the knots untie, the chains break free; and there was breath again. These words- they are magic in its truest form.
